Description
This Offenhauser valve cover breathers’ superior baffle design insures open air passages at all times – no oil leakage even at extremely high rpm’s. It’s made of polished cast aluminum and is 5″ tall. The base measures 1-3/4″ x 4-3/4″. The top of this breather is NOT removeable. Breather includes a lower baffle plate in addition to featuring internal layer type baffle where one plate is over the other. It allows the air to breath, but keeps the oil baffled below.
Includes gasket, bolts and mounting hole template.

The Offenhauser 4039 breather is a curved (45-degree or 90-degree) breather most commonly used as an oil pan breather on Ford Flathead V8 engines. However, it is a versatile part and has been seen used on small block and big block Chevy valve covers and other custom applications as well. It features built-in baffles to minimize oil from escaping, and it’s often used when additional crankcase ventilation is necessary, such as in engines with high crankcase pressure or with superchargers. The mounting bolt pattern is 4 inches, center to center.
The breather comes with an internal splash guard and is typically installed with a baffle and gasket. Its main function is to vent crankcase pressure while minimizing oil mist from exiting the engine. This part has a history dating back to the 1950s and is well-known among vintage and performance engine builders for its effectiveness in custom setups.
