Cast Aluminum High Compression Ford Cylinder Heads

In the selection of a power head, do not be misled by high compression ratios. It is true, that if every power factor involved were 100% efficient, then the higher the compression ratio, the more power developed. However, where the engine is not custom made, it very often proves that a lower compression ratio will produce a higher overall efficiency. For special compression ratios, advise bore, stroke, and whether block is relieved.

Offenhauser part number 1068 is a high-performance aluminum cylinder head designed specifically for the Ford Flathead V8 engines, also known as the “59AB” engines. These engines were produced from 1939 to 1948 and are found in various Ford and Mercury vehicles from that era. Typical applications include: – 1939–1948 Ford passenger cars and trucks with the “59AB” or later 24-stud Flathead V8 engine (often 239 cubic inches).

The 1068 head is built to fit the 24-stud, 3-3/16″ bore version of the Flathead block typically used from 1939–48. It can be used on stock engines or mild performance builds. There are several compression options available depending on bore and stroke, but the most common variant is the “400” (designated 1068-400), which provides about 7.9:1 to 8.8:1 compression depending on engine displacement. There are other, less common compression options available by special order.

This head is not intended for the earlier 21-stud Flatheads (pre-1939) or the later 8BA/8CM Flatheads used from 1949–53.
