The Chrysler 315 and 500 engines refer to the 1956 Dodge 315 cubic-inch “Red Ram” V8 and its high-performance “D-500” packages. Built as compact first-generation Hemis (often called “Baby Hemis”), the base 315 produced 218 to 230 horsepower, while the dual-carburetor D-500-1 pumped out up to 295 horsepower. The 315 cubic-inch V8, also known as the Dodge Super Red Ram, represented a displacement increase from the earlier 241 and 270 Hemi motors. It was produced exclusively for the 1956 model year, bridging the gap for Dodge before they transitioned to the larger 325-cube engines.
